Flavoxate belongs to the class of medications called antispasmodics. This medication is used to treat painful urination, urgency of urination, frequent urination at night, and incontinence. These symptoms may result from catheter use or conditions such as cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, urethrocystitis, and urethrotrigonitis.
Flavoxate works by decreasing muscle spasms in the urinary tract and bladder. Beneficial effects on the bladder muscles may occur as quickly as 2 to 3 hours after taking the medication.
It is best to take these tablets after meals.
Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications.
